Perspectives on Mud Season

Spring brings mud season to New England. There's a secret side to mud season that most folks probably don't experience. It happens after cold nights temporarily re-freeze water saturated mud, creating complex and beautiful crystalline structures. The tops of puddles freeze to a highly reflective sheen, impromptu streams are in daily flux between solid and liquid, and a few adventurous plants put forth early blossoms.

We haven't reached the full orchestral version of spring yet, just the piccolos and flutes warming up in the pit.
