It's wireless day! First here's an article about wireless access in NYC which sounds like a great system. I've also read of similar setups in San Francisco and then Robert X Cringely setup something to bring high speed access to his remote home wirelessly (but can we really believe him??). Here's a step-by-step guide to making your own Wireless Access Point.

How Remote Entry Works interesting article on how your car key fob works. The most interesting part is how the security encryption algorithms work. While visiting California last year and trying to find a parking spot during lunch hour (probably much easier this year...dang it) I got the idea for a parking assistant device. It would be a little box sitting on your dash that picks up the signals sent out by key fobs and displays them up on a little directional screen (your car is in the middle). It should try to pick up the unlock command, if possible, so you aren't chasing the wrong spots. As you cruise a large parking lot the device would give you an idea of which areas of the parking lot someone is getting into their car.
