About a week ago we started getting nightly phone calls from what appears to be a fax machine. The calls start at midnight and they call back every fifteen minutes. Really annoying. Searching the net I found: Opting out: A guide to stopping unwanted calls, mail, e-mail, which has some interesting ideas and links. I'd forgotten that the department of motor vehicles in most states sells your information unless otherwise instructed.

Last night I finally did a *69 on one of these calls and figured out who is calling us (someone out of Manchester). I have an idea on how to make them pay for all of our nights of interrupted sleep. I've setup my computer modem to accept fax calls and twiddled the settings a bit. If all goes well they should find a fax willing to accept their call tonight, at the blazing transfer rate of 300 baud! Hopefully it will take an hour or two of long distance charges to accomplish the deed. If nothing else their lame caller program will now be able to move onto the next person in the list.
