Our old buddy Smudge has been missing for a few days. The last time he was missing he returned four days later with a mangled right leg which had to be amputated. That was over three years ago and he's done remarkably well for a thirteen year old three legged cat. |

We bought Smudge on a whim. All of our other animals have come from the humane society. One rainy weekend we were in the pet shop and in the mood to buy a kitten. There were a couple of orange striped kittens in one cage and a half dozen black kittens the next cage over. The orange cats were languid, the black ones were fiesty. Faith wanted an orange cat. Meanwhile in the black cat cage Smudge was having a blast chewing and batting at my fingers. My kind of cat. The intent was to buy a cat for Faith. Somehow I talked her into buying Smudge and even naming him. Not very fair. Smudge was a handful, especially for Peep, our little grey kitty who he loved to ambush. He was also a challenge to pet. He had a built in timer, the result being that you got clawed or bit if you continued petting him once the time expired. The duration of the timer was random. Dispite his many quirks and recalcitrant social skills I've always liked Smudge. We'll miss the old fellow. | ||

I hope he comes back. I've heard of cats that know that their number is up, and quietly walk off into the woods to die. Perhaps he went out the way he wanted.
poor ole smudge.
Izzy went missing two days ago...as I hoped and really suspected...she's made friends with some neighbors a few streets away. we'll go get her after work today. we've met more neighbors through that dog....
Still no Smudge. Last night while watching a movie I thought I heard his telltale scratching at the back screen door...even looked like his a black silhouette was there, but no Smudge.
I hope he made it home by now
