Here's a good, geeky engineering read involving weather balloons, Linux, Basic stamps, temp probes, wireless, APRS, maps, telemetry, all welded together with Perl. Also a good source of relevant links.

Hey, how about that, OSX includes a nice vector/diagramming app called Omnigraffle. Goodbye Visio. This is great for the few charts & diagrams I do. Nice integration with the OS. For example I made a basic shape and dropped a PDF file onto it. The shape now displayed the PDF page. Just as easy to drop the pdf or images into the document and it will make shapes for them (with transparency). Slick. Also includes a bunch of templates for UML, network diagrams, flow charts, and <ack!> org charts. Here's Zeke's kinetic flow chart.

This, imo, is what the internet is all about. Lebanon has put the town's property maps online and it is pretty easy to use. Interesting for a potential house/land buyer, but also useful to figure out who's land you might be using when mountain biking/skiing/dog walking.

Crispy, cold mornings have invaded our snow covered hamlet. Gone are the morning snow showers, replaced by the creak of plummeting temperatures. Physics lesson this morning: when the temperature gets cold enough it becomes difficult to perform a Starsky & Hutch power slide on the snow packed parking lot.
