As is often the case with random web surfing I stumbled across one site which then led to other interesting discoveries.
- Delightful Machines
- Rolling Ball sculptures, a wide and wild variety of mechanical clocks, automata, folk & scientific toys, and the list goes on. For example, check out Bernard Gitton's hydraulic logic circuit and time-flow liquid clock.
- Mumford Micro Systems
- Bryan Mumford - Crackpot Inventor - how can you go wrong with a title like that? Bryan has a nicely organized collection of cool and crazy inventions. Not to be missed is his Photography section which features many photos of high speed, time lapse, and other special effects. I like the high speed photos of balloons being shot.
- Khirata's Sterling Engines
- History, theory, and plans for building your own sterling. Alternately you can spend the evening reading his excellent Elementary Knowledge of Metalworking.
- Burr Puzzles
- Ah, this is where those crazy interlocking wooden puzzles come from.
- Matthias Wandel
- I re-discover Matthias every year or two and always enjoy exploring his site. His woodworking is fantastic and he's built an awesome workshop.
- Marcel Betrisey
- When it comes to clocks this Swiss fellow is in a class of his own. Rolling ball clock? Sure, how about this monster? Or this slightly eclectic pnuematic clock. Be sure to check out Chronolith, a vacuum sealed clock powered by light. He has a page of quicktime movies of his various clocks, including this 6.5meg movie montage accompanied by Pink Floyd.
