A couple of years ago my brother suggested I check out the group Indigenous and I promptly forgot. As luck would have it I stumbled across their new release on the iTunes Music Store yesterday and have been rocking out ever since. Stevie Ray Vaughan meets Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
Indigenous is from Yankton, South Dakota. Our folks went to college near there: met, married, and may have even lived in Yankton for a time. South Dakota is the crazy corn of states. Sporadic beauty and desolation mixed unevenly with tourism, bikers, and missile silos.
We spent most of our childhood summers there: handed off to grandparents, aunts and uncles, fishing, catching gophers, doing farm chores, memorizing bible lessons, shooting fireworks, swimming at the lake, and saving up for carnivals. In the Air Force, out of all the possible places I could be stationed in the world, I ended up in South Dakota, barely a hundred miles from where I grew up.
Great album!
lived in Yankton for a year while I finished my BS at USD in Vermillion and Leon had his first commerical radio job. The viewing of Bald Eagles fishing along the Missouri at Gavin's Point, was, and they tell me, still is a great experience.
