Best link of the bunch, hacking your flashlight to use LEDs instead of incandescents. Nice, bright light and much longer battery life. Here's an LED guide chock full of useful information. Typically you need to add resistors to match the LED voltage requirements to the battery voltage. I found a series of white LEDs from Sunbrite LED which work off of 12v, so an extra resistor isn't required (it's probably already built in). Digikey sells them for a buck sixty each, even less in quantity.
