Almost Perfect

Pillsbury Sunrise

I took the D70 on this weekend's getaway and snapped a bunch of photos. Sadly, dew and dirt marred many of them. I'm not used to having such a large lens and it seems to be a magnet. The A70 lens was less than three quarters of an inch in diameter, the D70 kit lens is two inches in diameter. The difference between a dime and the ring a pop bottle leaves on a napkin.

Splash Closeup

While reviewing the photo above I immediately thought, "dang, another water drop on the lens!" On closer examination I found it to be a splash. No idea what, probably a fish? The ponds at Pillsbury echo with the calls of loons but none so close that they could be photographed.

Sunrises were misty and full of interesting light. There's a short hike that ends in a narrows between two of the ponds and is very photogenic (as well as a great dog swimming spot!). After a few shots, though, the camera stopped focusing. Turned out that the lens was covered in dew. End of session.

"Hey, this reminds me of Canada."
To quote my daughter on our last canoe trip in Ontario:

That's pretty funny.
