Sunspot 720
Sunspot 720

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Sun Spot 720.

Weighing in at seven or more of our Earth's diameters this maelstrom of untold heat seemed to come from out of nowhere. An X-class solar flare is highly possible this weekend.

This photo was taken from Lebanon, NH using our Orion telescope w/solar filter. Just got the solar filter this week and it was extremely nice of the Sun and clouds to cooperate with such a great day and a huge Sun spot to boot.

D70: ISO 200, 1/125 sec
Telescope: 120mm lens, 1000mm focal length, f/8.3

Well now! That new filter sure beats the pants off of a projection image, doesn't it? Great shot!

Sure does. Even though the sky was still pretty hazy I managed to get a good view.

We need a high altitude observation platform. Something like a 30 or 40 thousand foot elevator to a floating platform up above the clouds for near-atmosphere free viewing.
