We've been having impressive thunder and lightning storms lately and last Friday a big one pummeled Hanover and a few other towns. The movie below was the view of one such storm north of our house. A series of photos tossed into quicktime for a short looped movie.
I was experimenting with taking lightning photographs. Not all that easy. Even with finger poised on a half-down shutter all I could hope for was to catch follow-up strikes after seeing a bolt and quickly pressing the shutter. Next time there's a lightning storm when it is pitch black I'll try keeping the shutter open for a while and see if that works better.
Despite appearances the house isn't being hit. This is with a wide-angle lens, thus the distortion with perspective.
I'm impressed that you photo'ed any lightning at all!
This storm was pretty impressive on the grumbling, crashing, and striking department. But there was very little rain which surprised me. i was expecting a down pour and we just got a few drops. The bugs were happy about that.
That looks amazing! I love it to sit in a warm room while there is a storm outside!
Great movie! At the same time, I was poised with my finger on my camera's shutter, too, but I had it set to take 8-second exposures. Took about 50 without capturing a single bolt, but the last one got a small one, so I called it quits! This was with a Coolpix 4500, not my D70, whch I had lent out that day.
lookd like a tornado tail haning in there
