Ok, baseball caps and portraiture should never be mixed. A quick snapshot taken while Faith was practicing the piano after a day of working in the yard. I experimented in photoshop to soften and stylize it a bit.
Update: here's a version that tries some of Massimo's suggestions.

Try to add contrast a little, I think the highlights may still be too dark (use the white in the eyes and the theet as reference).
Yes, I see what you mean now, it is pretty flat.
I've played around with levels and curves a bit. Seems right on the edge of blowing out though. Probably be best to start over from scratch with the original image.
