My friend Brian came over a couple nights this week to help install the sub-floor. I'd put in a few rows and my mind started shutting down as the height shimming became more complex. By my calculations I'd have had the entire floor floating on a sea of shims in only a few more rows. So Brian came over and sat down with the level, a few shims, and a couple dricore panels to contemplate the nature of the beast. He came up with a better approach and after putting another row in using it we realized that the last row I'd put in was too whacked and ended up dis-assembling it and starting over.
Moral of the story: sub-floor is MUCH easier if you have even a semi-level surface. Old garage floors with non-geometric drainage parabolas are not straightforward at all, even after applying a few bags of self-levelling cement (which didn't ... level that is).
Sub-Moral of the story: Two brains are better than one and one Brian is better than none! (and the sub-moral still works if you mistype brian/brain like I often do...)
You may notice that there's shelving in place along the top of the knee walls, which is 1"x12" pine that I'd stained/urethaned. Walls are "mostly" painted, although I found a few places that I'd totally missed.
Next steps:
Put touch up paint higher in the list. At least before new floor is down!
At least the HDTV is at the bottom....
Don't get that HDTV! Then Andy and all the other guys that check your page regularly will want one!
And how does that convince me NOT to get it??? ":^)
With all the hard work you've done on the family room and around the house, you DESERVE the HDTV! i just don't want it covered in paint or banged around, is all. I'm talking logical steppage order here.
Faith, you are a rare and unusual woman! ;-)
