Belly Support System
The Belly

Little did we know that when we walked out of the hospital with our new baby what we were really taking home was a belly with a support system. Since then it has become clear that the two of us, and poor little Zane, are all slaves to the belly.

The belly wants filling and it would like it now.

The belly wants emptying and does so now.

The belly senses a bit of air jostling amongst the milk; air is not food, the belly wants it gone.

Little Zane is constantly being jostled awake by the belly and all of its, well, belly-aching. He looks up at us with his big blue eyes as if to say, "I hope you know that what is about to happen is not my doing and I have the greatest respect for both of you, and your clothing." And then the belly does something completely unexpected.

It was really nice when the little strip of umbilical cord jerky fell off, but it also meant the belly was sealed in for good. We all have to learn to live with it now, particularly Baby Zane since he has the symbiotic relationship with the hungry one.

Right, you think they are going to TELL you stuff like this?? Don't you think that if you knew you would end up wearing his lunch on a regular basis you might have gotten a kitten instead??

But then there's all that other stuff no one can explain about, either. Like when you look in his little blue eyes and your heart melts into a puddle. And when you wrap your hand around his incredibly tiny foot and count his little piggies and can't believe how lucky you are? So, what's a little spit up in the grand scheme of things. ;-)
