Happy Birthday Jake

Not sure where/how/what is up with Jake, but wherever you are I hope you are doing fine and having a good birthday!

Early morning visit
Early Morning Deer Visit

This is our deer. She comes by every so often, late evening or early morning, to munch on fallen apples and sample some of the local flora. Since it's been raining for so long we haven't had a chance to mow, leaving a lot of flora to choose from.

Nature photographers must have special, long-throw flash assemblies, because I really have to crank up the camera sensitivity (making a noisier photo) and steady the lens just to get a semi-blurry photo like this. I don't even try my flash because the deer is too far away. It's interesting that when the camera focuses it sends out a small burst of light -- what I thought was infrared -- to help it focus, yet I can see the reflection of it in the deer's eyes and the deer certainly notices it too.

Don't tell Faith the deer was here. She thinks the only reason they come to visit is to drop off tick passengers. Like the deer is running a transit bus service for ticks, shuttling them too and from work...
