Life with our new puppy, Raz, is settling down a bit. Well, as much as anything can be called "settled" around a puppy. He has a fun personality, seems to be very clever, and looks like he is taking to training pretty well so far...considering his puppiness and all. Haven't had any potty accidents for well over a week, part of this is that he may be learning when and where to go, but also we have a couple crates that he is put into when we can't keep a constant eye on him. He doesn't soil his own crate and genuinely seems to enjoy their comfort. At the office he'll often crawl into the crate when ready for nap.
He and Zane seem to be getting along. They'll play from time to time, but most of the time they seem to respect each other's smallness, personal space, and individual nuttiness. We try to keep the dog from grabbing Zane's food or juice cup and to keep Zane out of the dog's dish. When the Raz isn't around Zane finds lots of entertainment unzipping and crawling into and out of his crate.
The biggest pain in dealing with Raz right now is his diet. He eats EVERYTHING. Stick, rocks, leaves, bark, mulch, and poop. Most of those I can deal with but he takes way too much delight in the poop eating part. Seriously, whenever we take him into the woods to go to the bathroom he purposely seeks out old poop, his or anyone else's. So we are with him as much as possible, telling him no and covering the stuff up. He's tricky and persistent and every outing requires extreme vigilance, be it poop or something *new* and *more disgusting* that we've yet to encounter.
My office is next to the woods shown above. Raz and I spend a lot of time romping around and have gone on a few long lunch time hikes through the boulder-strewn terrain. For a little fellow he does a fine job and rarely gets "stuck" where I need to help him over a crevasse or through a particularly tough boulder filled area. If I took a picture of each time he perches on top of a rock looking like the King of the World I'd have to start a whole new website just for them!
