Abbotts Sphinx Caterpillar
Zane and the Caterpillar

Zane and I were doing chores this morning, one of which consisted of trying to cut and pull down wild grapes covering the speed limit sign, climbing the trees, and scaling the power pole out front. On one excursion into the forest of leaves I ran across this nice specimen. Note that the "eyes" are a disguise on its butt. ":^)

A little googling didn't turn up a picture, but I found a caterpillar identification website (of course!) and traced it down to this fuzzy moth: Abbott's Sphinx.

Stick disguise?
