I think last week's ride is going down as the last of the year. We got a foot of snow over the weekend and it's been snowing most of today as well. I'm going to miss biking.
You can buy what's called a Fat Bike for riding in sand and snow. A fat bike has tires four inches or wider. By comparison my new bike's tires are 2.5 inches wide. Fat Bikes don't have suspension, but since the tires run at much lower PSI it's probably a lot like driving a yoga ball over rough terrain. They are heavier and look like what one would envision a bike tank might look. I strongly suspect they are a lot more work to ride, even without snow on the ground.
But two new bikes in a year, that's too much. That and I'm not even sure how much you can ride a fat bike in really deep snow. Maybe once the trail has been packed down, but there's nothing that says this won't be a big snow year, and I can't see any bike lumbering through two feet or more of snow. Heck, I get a good enough workout breaking trail on a fresh foot of snow using skis.
So today I took the bike rack off the car. Yesterday the ski rack was attached. I've skied a couple of times so far and while it's nice, it sure isn't mt biking. ":^)
