In Memory Of The Columbia Crew

Faith • 2003-02-02 10:46pm

Just in the past week, NASA observed the anniversary of its only two other space tragedies, the Challenger explosion on Jan. 28, 1986, and the Apollo spacecraft fire that killed three on Jan. 27, 1967.

It's "very cold" in (for) Florida this time of year and things just behave differently, I guess.

Tragic though the evens of this weekend were, lets hope that NASA continues with manned space flight. I'm sure the crew of Columbia would have wanted that.

A followup to yesterday's birthday card. As of 8am this morning (EDT) the "card" has travelled over 42,000 miles. The first map shows the chain of signature locations here in the USA. A little later in the day Brett checked in from Australia and Glenn from Hong Kong, greatly increasing our world coverage as shown in the bottom map. Thanks to everyone who joined in.

BTW, you can make your own maps like this by coming up with nearby airport codes and plugging them into the Great Circle Mapper (which also takes lat/lon coords).
