Air Swimmers
Air Swimmers

On a cool, damp evening last week nightfall approached and our backyard was transformed into a silent airshow. Hundreds of Dragonfly filled the air: swirling, diving, and hovering. Silent but for the faint flutter of cellophane wing whisking past ear.

I lay on dewy grass with camera in hand to capture the wonderful display. Too little light, too much motion. For all the hundreds of flying apparitions there was seldom a moment where one frame of view held more than two fleeting figures. Those the camera caught were faint and fantastical, like fairies near the edge of dream.

Aw, g'wan, I can see the support wires you used to hold up those paper cut-outs from the Sunday comics! Can't fool us.
