I'm making a marinated lamb dish tonight and googled for some ideas. In a recipe for Indian style Tandoori Lamb I noted the following step:

  1. Dissolve 2 level teaspoons of fine salt in 6 tbsp. of lemon juice.
  2. Brush the pieces of lamb on all sides with this mixture, let macerate for 30 minutes and repeat the procedure.

Which of course got me to wondering why they don't use the word macerate more often in song lyrics. Which inevitably led to wondering how various artists might macerate to music.

Marilyn Manson

you're so f****ng tough
yeah, so f****ng tough
don't know what to f****ng do
'cause I wasn't born with enough...
not born with enough
not enough f****ng bitter lemons
to macerate you

Nora Jones

Macerate for me...tonight
Macerate in marinade, tonight
Tender and soft
In the warm lemon glow
Breath it in and let it flow
Macerate for me...tonight

Johnny Cash

The beast in me
is tough
and sinewy.
The beast in me
just longs
to be sweet,
tender and replete.
God macerate
the beast in me.

Garbage

I'm only happy when there's lemons
I'm only happy when there's fine salt added
I know you can't appreciate this
I'm only happy when it macerates
Pour your marinade on
Pour that marinade on
Pour that marinade on, baby
I'm only happy when it macerates
