We went camping this weekend, one of those last minute things. The weather forecast looked great and it was the last free weekend before Faith started teaching piano.
Usually we head to the New Hampshire White Mountains or Vermont Green Mountains. This time I looked online to see what else might be out there and stumbled across Pillsbury State Park.
We didn't make reservations, I keep forgetting you can book camp sites online. We arrived Friday afternoon and still ended up with a nice spot.
We went for a long hike, apparently on a less popular trail as we were breaking through spider webs with our faces the whole time. Gotta invent that dog mounted web sweeper. Trails were nice and easy. Lots of mushrooms, of course, and the leaves were just barely starting to turn.
Saturday evening after cooking Baby Dal in our Jetboil (which I used for all of the meals) I headed down to the water's edge to try taking some sunset photos. As chance would have it a some folks from a nearby campsite were heading out in canoes.
Pillsbury is just lovely with lots o' little lakes scattered about. I highly recommend it!
If you have a canoe I would highly recommend some of the more remote camp sites. 36 & 37 are isolated and have their own pond.
Have you guys got a kayak yet? We're thinking of getting one but we may need to put ice blades on it soon here in WI.
