Neither. It's my old arch enemy the thermostatic mixing valve.
It sits at the junction of our solar tank/electric water heater and a cold water pipe. Presumably to mix cold water with hot and prevent us from being scalded.
Instead it slowly fails and our showers get colder and colder. Necessitating replacing this twenty five dollar part every couple of years.
I used your Nikon 6T and my 5T for this mega-zoom. What you are seeing is barely an inch high.
The valve was no longer happy nor did it feel like it was achieving it's full potential in the gravitational orientation the world had forced onto it.
Set free in a counterclockwise rotation of its own choosing it has blossomed and grown. And changed it's name to Bert.
Bert settled down in a remote part of Vermont, helping out with the annual maple syrup boiling. He has dreams of starting a support group for fatigued and cast off bimetal springs.

It has a nice, MYST look to it. Is it upside-down?
