I've been noticing a mass of frog eggs in the shallow water of the ditch. It's a marshy area that will dry up in the next month, that is if the rain stops for more than a couple days. Each day the egg mass has changed and today we found it squirming with little tadpoles. Tiny things. You could arrange a couple dozen on a dime and still have room to set up the tadpole orchestra.
I brought some home to our pond and a few ended up in a condiment cup so I could take macro photos with the D70. There were eggs yet unhatched, eggs with tadpoles about to emerge, and finally a young tadpole sporting visible external gills.
