Interesting. I have never seen a wasp with this kind of pattern. I like the choice of the large yellow petals filling most of the image, with the black center of the flower on the top right corner: they provide a perfect backdrop, and complement the yellow and black colors of the wasp.

Nice pic, the abdomen looks flat so it may be a hover fly that mimics the colours of a wasp.
I think it was a hover fly. There were all variety of bees & wasps around the flowers that day along with these guys. I wanted to take a shot of the hover flies hovering but couldn't seem to find any in action, or at least not long enough to get a snapshot.
