Not a Fish
Chickadee

This is what yesterday's "fish" really was...a chickadee.

With all of the rain and snow lately our bird feeder is a really popular place. I was out filling the feeders the other day, using a coffee cup to scoop from the large black seed bag. Chickadees were flittering about and while I stood there watching, with a cup full of seeds, a little Red-Breasted Nuthatch landed on my hand, gave out a little chirp, flew away, went twenty feet and turned around, flew back, and hovered for a few seconds like a hummingbird in front of the seeds before flying off again.

So it wasn't very difficult to grab the camera and take chickadee photos. When I'm standing there the strategy for the birds is to fly from a tree thirty feet away, grab a seed and fly right back. That's when I got the idea of trying to capture one in flight. Zoomed all of the way out it's not that hard, but with the big zoom lens zoomed in and a one or two foot depth of focus it's a real challenge.

If it isn't obvious yesterday's photo was rotated sideways...

Just in case things are unclear:

THIS IS NOT A FISH.

well...technically...in the long chain of evolution and such...chasing back the tree of life and all...it could be considered as a fish by-product or some-such.

What's up with that tail feather??

Wow, this pic makes me think of the phrase "not by the hair of my chinny chin chin"!
