We were out for a hike in the woods last weekend and ran across a collapsed beaver dam. Dramatic collapse with a big hole punched into the end of the four or five foot dam face. About ten feet away, in what was once the deep section of the pond, I found this oddly shaped rock. First thing that came to mind was Meteor. The photo doesn't do justice to the backside of the rock and how oddly shaped it is: rounded and somewhat smoother than this side. The whole rock has a strange crystalline structure. It's about the size of a lunch box and weighs in at 22lbs.
Looks like a meteor. There must be some one at Dartmouth that would know. Could be very valuable. strange looking
Maybe it's volcanic and was SHOT out here by a might explosion?
If I get a chance to find someone at Dartmouth, or elsewhere, I'll have them check it out.
I think the beaver alchemists were at work, something went wrong, and this "rock" blasted OUT of their dam!
How to ID a meteorite:

(I don't think this is a meteorite.)
It passes the magnet on a string test...with some really strong magnets.
I'll post a picture of the rounded/smoother edge. Still, it doesn't have the "melted" look that they show with many of the meteors.
It also seems heavy for it's size, but it could be that I have shoestrings for muscles after years of programming...
