Somewhere along the road between Casper, Wyoming and the Rawlins turn-off there's a non-descript side road which scoots along the edge of the Pathfinder reservoir while affording some spectacular views of the river that feeds it.
It's out of the way and doesn't attract many visitors, even during peak tourist season. Nearby there's a metal bridge spanning the canyon, which my sis claims some friends dove off of many years ago. Probably a sign of age, but that wasn't the first thought I had when approaching the edge nor even a distant second after she brought up the possibility that it could be done.
Near the bridge, backed up against shallow depressions on the rocky hillside, are a few exposed camp sites. What they lack in privacy or shade they probably make up for in solitude and grandeur.
p.s. I'm not sure if I've actually placed the map link above correctly, hopefully Laura will chime in with a course correction.
I'll have to check this out. Flew over it a few times but never got this view.
