A huge low pressure system spun through over the weekend and in its wake we end up topping 41" (forty one inches!) of rain so far this year and had our first, albeit brief, snow. Zeke and I hiked home from the office, stopping by the rushing flow of Great Brook at the foot of Storr's hill to take a few pictures (or smell a few smells as the case may be), and then the last two miles to the house between intermittent splashes of rain and speckles of snow.
No idea what kind of winter it will be, but it sure has been an odd year so far. As a reference point we normally get 15" of rain in a year. Not only have we easily doubled that, but there's a good chance we'll treble it as well. I looked up average rainfall for Seattle, WA and London, UK and found that they usually get 30", which we surpassed around mid-Summer.
Faith only got a few tomatoes, a squash, and a pumpkin out of the garden, the rest of it really never took off. The berries did well, as did a stand of Morning Glories and Nasturtium.
Update: Ted sent along his take on the photo...
