Just got back from vacation. This year I drove out to Wyoming from New Hampshire. For company I had nephews: seven year old Christopher on the way out and seventeen year old Jake on the way back. Jake and I stopped at Dr. Evermore's salvage sculpture, just south of Baraboo, WI and spent about an hour wandering around the fantastical, art strewn landscape he has created over the years. I'll be posting a more complete photo collection of the sculptures, along with Wyoming shots, over the next week or so. The photo shown is Jake manning a contraption that looks vaguely similiar to the one used in Kate Bush's cloudbusting video.
Wyoming was dry and hot. I divided my time between Atlantic City, WY at Mom's cabin and Lander. A handful of forest fires dot the Wind River Range area northwest of Lander. One day while driving from Lander to Atlantic City there were billowing towers of smoke rising up in the rearview mirror, orange tinted and menacing. On the roadside white alkali glared like exposed bone where water once stood. Thousands and thousands of grasshoppers dotted the road, splatting on windows and forming their own tumultuos swarm clouds. A Wyoming twist on bibilical comeuppance.
Other than that it was a great trip. Lot's of fun with the nephews, nieces, family, and dogs. Installed a new solar panel and charger on the cabin (it isn't on the grid) and fixed a few things. The trip culminated with a city-wide 4th of July display in Lander which was an amazing, if not maniacally zealous, spectacle.
