Dane Carlson links to this story over at Wired on crop circles. Some folks believe they are in response to a SETI signal sent 30 years ago.
Hidden messages remind me of something I've fantasized about doing for a number of years: talking roads. Remember those evenly spaced groves along the edge of interstates which buzz when you drift too far? How about changing the spacing and modulating the signal? Like an unwound vinyl record. Folks would sit up and drive straight if they suddenly heard James Earl Jones say "Get back on the road, Jack!" I'd love to get an art grant to make Mozart road grooves. With properly spaced dual road grooves you could make it stereo!
If I was a gazillionaire, I would fund this project. Since I'm not, I'm willing to chip in 10 bucks. That might buy you a chisel, which would undoubtedly prove handy.
Thanks, Phil. Wish you were a gazillionaire as well. Not sure about a chisel, it would take months to make the first syllable! I've always wanted a backhoe though and am confident it would be useful for this project. ":^)
Oh man, doesn't it bug you when someone else has thought of the idea you have kept as a secret to make you a millionair. that has just happened to me. Although, the down side is that I am sure that this technology would be used for advertising as soon as some one tried to impliment it. Imagine mile after mile of "Drink Pepsi!"
at a teeth rattling level.
it would be cool to have left and right channels for the left and right channels.
