New Scientist has an article on a technology that eats garbage and produces electricity. The MFC (microbial fuel cells, NOT microsoft foundation classes...different class of garbage in/out) uses strains of E.coli to break the organic matter down and release hydrogen which is converted into electricity. The article also has a nice dog photo.
See, it's just a matter of time until I have the tools to build my autonomous, self-powered dandelion eating robot.
