Following up on last weeks link to the new toy balloon assisted elevation record here's a website outlining next years planned attempt at a new record of 132,000 feet in a balloon. These guys will be in spacesuits with no chance of cracking open a beer or using a bb gun or knife to cut away a few balloons. Space is considered to start around 100,000 feet and these guys will be subjected to -94°F temperatures, re-entry speeds of 1,100 feet per minute and their balloon will have a volume of over 40 million cubic feet at peak elevation QinetiQ 1

The Langley Schools Music Project: "INNOCENCE AND DESPAIR" "I knew virtually nothing about conventional music education, and didn't know how to teach singing. Above all, I knew nothing of what children's music was supposed to be. But the kids had a grasp of what they liked: emotion, drama, and making music as a group. Whether the results were good, bad, in tune or out was no big deal -- they had elàn. This was not the way music was traditionally taught. But then I never liked conventional 'children's music,' which is condescending and ignores the reality of children's lives, which can be dark and scary. These children hated 'cute.' They cherished songs that evoked loneliness and sadness." --Hans.Fenger, Langley music supervisor/arranger

Hey, I wonder if this is how the Cowboy Junkies got started?
