Great1 what time did you get this. got a few constellations, too?
Jer • 2004-11-10 07:40am

Between 9 and 10pm. The aurora subsided soon after this shot.

Is this dark on your screen?

It's ok on my two mac screens and one windows machine. On another windows machine it was really dark.

Looks good on my desktop Mac and also on Windows machine. How long did you keep the shutter open?
jerry • 2004-11-10 02:40pm

Shot at 30 sec, f/5, ISO 640, 29mm

If the D70's effective focal length is 1.5 times the lens focal length then that means this was shot at 44mm. Or does the D70 report the effective FL in EXIF?

Ted • 2004-11-10 05:02pm

The D70 reports the actual FL used, so "29mm" would be correct. The "35mm-equivalent" FL would be the 44mm you quoted.

Great display! Even some high altitude reds evident to the east(?) Was this changing quickly?
Jer • 2004-11-12 07:57am

It was a slow Aurora. Last year and Sunday night (I hear) were much more dynamic. This one kind of oozed on the horizon and was much more interesting using the camera than in person.

Tall Pots

Baden-Baden Pots

What the heck? Looks like something from War of the Worlds!

Hmm, now that you mention it...

I thought it was a coincidence of light and angle that the cloud appeared to be emanating from the pot. When in all likelihood the pot is releasing dreaded alien spore upon the unsuspecting public.

Stock up on duct tape!
