If the D70's effective focal length is 1.5 times the lens focal length then that means this was shot at 44mm. Or does the D70 report the effective FL in EXIF?
It was a slow Aurora. Last year and Sunday night (I hear) were much more dynamic. This one kind of oozed on the horizon and was much more interesting using the camera than in person.
Great wide screen coverage!

Great1 what time did you get this. got a few constellations, too?
Between 9 and 10pm. The aurora subsided soon after this shot.
Is this dark on your screen?
It's ok on my two mac screens and one windows machine. On another windows machine it was really dark.
Looks good on my desktop Mac and also on Windows machine. How long did you keep the shutter open?
Shot at 30 sec, f/5, ISO 640, 29mm

The D70 reports the actual FL used, so "29mm" would be correct. The "35mm-equivalent" FL would be the 44mm you quoted.
Great display! Even some high altitude reds evident to the east(?) Was this changing quickly?
